Williams-Sonoma, Inc.(WSI), is an American publicly traded consumer retail company that sells kitchenwares and home furnishings. It is headquartered in San Francisco, California, United States. It is one of the largest e-commerce retailers in the U.S., and one of the biggest multi-channel specialty retailers in the world.
WSI wanted a Gift Finder Google Assistant Application to be built to assist their customers in finding an appropriate gift by interacting in a conversational manner with a chatbot. They wanted to enable their customers to use Google Assistant or Google Home to any of Williams Sonoma’s brands to get gift recommendations. Customers would provide some basic information about the person they are buying the gift for e.g. gender, age and answer some additional questions such as gift occasion, the range of price. This gift finder app would lay the foundation to eventually fulfill a purchase transaction making the transition between finding the gift and buying it seamless.
Google Cloud Implementation
SpringML team was tasked to help with building this solution using Google Cloud Platform. The technology stack included Dialogflow and App Engine. The channel i.e., the interface via which users interact with the chatbot was based on Google Assistant. Several intents were developed to help provide input to the recommendation engine. Integrations to WSI’s backend systems were also enabled to get product information. The final recommendations were then provided to the user via the chatbot channel – either as cards or carousel within Google Assistant / Google Home.
