SpringML: What is your current position at SpringML?
Ashish: I am currently working as a data scientist at SpringML. My basic role is to solve customer problems by formulating use-cases and solving them using machine learning algorithms. While working with customers, I try to ensure that I am able to understand their problems and make them understand how their data sources could be used to resolve issues by providing examples. Also, I try to ensure there is two-way communication, trying to explain to them the results and methodology.
SpringML: What’s the first thing you do when you come into work and last to wrap up the workday?
Ashish: The very first thing that I do after coming to workday is greeting all my co-workers before I check my emails/calendar for meetings and grab a hot coffee to start the day fresh. Before I start my work, I also monitor the Asana tool for assigned responsibilities to ensure they are completed first.
Before wrapping up, I save all my work and update my supervisor about my work progress. I also ensure there are no unleft important tasks for the day in my sticky notes.
SpringML: Before joining SpringML, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Ashish: Before joining SpringML, I worked as a Data Scientist in an investment bank where my role was to predict electricity prices for the next day using machine learning. This was very interesting since I had to analyze a lot of data points related to historic prices, weather, renewables, etc. As a data scientist, leveraging math and technology for finance was truly fascinating for me.
SpringML: If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Ashish: According to me, Richard Branson is a perfect example of a good entrepreneur, philanthropist, and business magnate. I find his autobiography to be too inspiring for anyone looking to be an entrepreneur.
